Hala l-Badr ( Arabic حلا البدر, DMG Ḥalā l-Badr ; also Hala l-Bedr and Hala-'l Badr , English also Hallat al Badr ) is a 1570 meter high volcano in the province of Medina , in the northwest of Saudi Arabia . The cinder cone rises about 300 meters above the surroundings and belongs to the extensive volcanic field Harrat 'Uwayrid . Several eruptions are historically documented well into the Middle Ages.
Mount Sinai
A number of authors, including Charles Beke , Sigmund Freud and Immanuel Velikovsky , stated that the biblical description of the migration of Israelite slaves to a mountain from which a "consuming fire" emanated ( 2 Mos 24.17 EU ) describes a volcanic eruption. This excludes all mountains on the Sinai peninsula and in the Seir Mountains . What remained were three volcanoes in the biblical Midian , in northwestern Saudi Arabia, of which Hala l-Badr is the best known.
In the Hala l-Badr, various authors saw the biblical Sinai , in particular
- Alois Musil in the early 20th century
- Jean Koenig 1971
- Colin Humphreys 2003
- Jacob E. Dunn 2014
