Halaveli is a small tourist island in the Maldives . It houses the Halaveli Holiday Village with 112 beds.

geography

Halaveli belongs to the Ari Atoll , the middle of the atolls in the western wing of the Maldives. It is located about 60 km southwest of the capital Malé . Administratively it belongs to the Alifu Alifu Atoll (Alif Alif, this also includes the two northern small atolls). The island lies in the interior of the atoll, near the northeastern edge. It is about 3 kilometers to the open sea.

Halaveli is itself an atoll , egg-shaped about 2 × 1 kilometer in diameter. The actual island is located on the southeastern edge and is about 300 meters long and 150 meters wide. The land area (vegetation) is 2.9 hectares , and including the beach 4.8 hectares. It is D- or crescent-shaped, outside the house reef, inside the lagoon . The islet rises only slightly above the water and is lined with palm trees and a white beach. To the west is a tidally dry sandbank. The rest of the atoll ring is a reef just below the water surface, whereby the lagoon is divided into two smaller basins near the island and a large inner basin. As with all Maldivian islands, the reef ring is clearly visible in the clear water.

Halaveli is one of the Maldives' early tourist islands. A small diving resort was located here, which was last operated exclusively by the Italian tour operator Grandi Viaggi . Then it was taken over by Constance Hotels and Resorts , a luxury hotel operator in Mauritius, and opened in 2009 after a complete redesign. The resort is one of the most exclusive hotels in the Maldives and has been a member of The Leading Hotels of the World since January 2013 .

In 1991 a 38 m freighter was sunk here as a diving target, which lies at a depth of 28 m (Halaveli Wreck) .

The Constance Halaveli Resort

The resort covers the entire island, with the hotel complex in the center, and infrastructure and villas (beach villas) to the shore around it. To the south on the outer edge are the mooring and covered boat sheds, in the inside of the lagoon there is the landing stage for aircraft and diving. Towards the west, over several hundred meters, about 90 Water Villas stretch over the sandbank  , which are mostly stilted in the water and connected to the main island by a long jetty.

In terms of construction, the hotel ensemble is based on the local design language in the sense of postmodernism . The buildings will all remain a maximum of two stories. The central complex corresponds to the building type of the Indo-European house , and the villas, the floor-fixed like the pile dwellings, are round houses constructed on a boat-shaped floor plan, with unobstructed roof stalls on the inside.
