The Halbendorfer See , in Upper Sorbian Brězowski jězor , is a two-kilometer-long and 500-meter-wide swimming lake near Weißwasser in Upper Lusatia (Eastern Saxony). It is located in the area of the communities Groß Düben , Runde and Trebendorf . It is named after the Groß Düben district of Halbendorf , on the bank of which a recreation area has been built since 1982.

The lake is marketed nationwide. In addition to beaches, there are textile and nudist campsites and a boat rental in the immediate vicinity . There has been a wakeboard and water ski facility here since 2014 . The annual highlight of the season is the Neptune Festival in July, when the stylized sea god Neptune comes out of the lake to baptize some people.

The Halbendorfer See was created from a remaining hole in the Trebendorfer Felder opencast mine , from which lignite was extracted until 1969. Other lakes belong to this former open-cast mine, some of which are connected to the Halbendorfer See by canals. The road between Trebendorf and Halbendorf, which runs between the two largest lakes, was partially sunk in the 1970s. Only after densification measures by the LMBV towards the end of the nineties could a new road be built on the dam. This is affected by the cycle path surrounding the lake.

The lake is fed by a tributary of the Struga , into which it can also be drained again. To protect the beaches from erosion , the water level is lowered by around 10 cm in autumn.
