Architecture and history

The four-storey building was built in 1891 in the neo-baroque style , on the site of a small two-storey house. The previous building belonged to the master watchmaker Wiesenthal and had a living room, chamber and kitchen. Wiesenthal sold his house around 1890 to the building contractor Andreas Schultze, who was based in Groß Ottersleben . In 1891 Schultze had the old building torn down and erected the current building.

The façade of the representative building made of bricks, but relatively narrow with a façade width of only 9.25 meters, is dominated by a box oriel , which is located in the middle in front of the three upper floors. The bay windows are flanked by set, ringed columns. The bay window is crowned by a round arched gable . The ground floor has openings designed as basket arches , which have been preserved in their original design. The original doors from the construction period still exist here. Fields with floral or ornamental stucco are arranged below the windows on the second floor .

In 1913, the Sudenburg master mason Max Behrend acquired the building. He had the property extended to the rear to about 80 meters. A courtyard, a rear building as well as a garden and a chicken yard were created. A chemical products store was later operated on the property, producing floor wax . In addition, Hans Ding ran a wire rope factory . For this purpose, there was a 30-meter-long roofed track for tensioning the ropes. As the length of the facility was often insufficient, the cable route repeatedly extended to the street.

Currently (as of 2017) there is an office in the shop of the house.

In the local register of monuments , the residential and commercial building is recorded as a monument under registration number 094 81992 .

As part of the Wilhelminian-style development on Halberstädter Straße, which has largely been preserved, the building is considered to be significant in terms of urban development.
