history

The history of Halberstadtwerke begins in October 1860 with the establishment of the “Committee of Halberstädter Gas-Aktiengesellschaft”. In 1902 the first municipal power station was built. In 1929, the electricity company merged with the gas and waterworks and the tram to form the “municipal works”. After the end of the Second World War, the municipal utilities became a department of the city administration, afterwards they were part of the VEB Energieversorgung Magdeburg combine. On January 9, 1992, the municipal utilities regained their independence with the establishment of Stadtwerke Halberstadt GmbH. In 1992 the name was changed to Halberstadtwerke GmbH.

Warmth:

District heating is used by more than 3,500 households in the city center of Halberstadt in the Halberstadtwerke supply area. Every year around 59 million kWh of district heating are transported through a twenty-kilometer pipe network. More than half of the district heating from Halberstadtwerke is generated from combined heat and power in combined heat and power plants.

Customers who are outside the area of the district heating statute can use local heating contracting. With contracting , the customer saves the costs of investing in a new heating system. Instead, he pays a monthly amount, which is made up of a fixed flat rate for the costs of the heating system and the services (basic price) as well as a consumption-dependent price for the supplied heat (heat price). Halberstadtwerke is responsible for setting up the heating system, supplying heat and all maintenance and repair measures.

Halberstadtwerke not only supplies energy, but also advises its customers on how to use this energy as efficiently as possible. The service ranges from advising private customers to examining larger buildings. Around 50 buildings in the Harz district have now been energetically examined by Halberstadtwerke, including schools, administration buildings and a boarding school. Overall, the energy consumption of these properties could be reduced by up to 700,000 kWh in total. This corresponds to a CO 2 reduction of more than 150,000 kilograms.

Halberstadtwerke is consistently expanding the supply of energy from regenerative raw materials. Thereby forming photovoltaic systems and cogeneration a priority. Another mainstay was put into operation in 2012: the biogas plant on the Halberstadtwerke premises. The raw materials for this plant are supplied by seven farmers who live within a ten kilometer radius of the biogas plant. Among other things, the biogas plant supplies the Halberstadtwerke CHP with the necessary fuels.
