The VEB semiconductor plant Frankfurt (Oder) (short: HFO or HWF ) was the largest producer of microelectronics in the former GDR .
Company history
The semiconductor factory was officially established on January 1, 1959. The initial production facility was a house in the center of Frankfurt, but in 1961 construction was "on the two years greenfield " in Markendorf in Frankfurt (Oder) built the main premises. Another production facility and vocational school was set up in the former girls' vocational school at Potsdamer Strasse 1 and 2. On August 31, 1970 the company sports association (BSG) semiconductor plant (today's name SV Preußen Frankfurt ) was founded. Since 1978 the semiconductor plant has belonged to the Microelectronics Combine in Erfurt . By 1989 the plant had grown to 8,000 employees. In the semiconductor plant , microelectronic components were manufactured for the Comecon countries that could not be obtained from the “ non-socialist economic area ”. With the monetary union in July 1990 and the associated transition to the D-Mark , all economic relations with Comecon collapsed, the plant became insolvent overnight, and thousands of employees were laid off in a row.
The successors of VEB Semiconductor Plant Frankfurt (Oder) were SiMI Silicium Microelectronic Integration GmbH, Megaxess GmbH Germany, MSF Microtechnology Services Frankfurt (Oder) GmbH and Chipfabrik Frankfurt (Oder) .
Product profile
When it was founded in the late 1950s, the focus of global microelectronics development was on bipolar semiconductors. Subsequently, the development of the HFO focused on all types of bipolar circuits. From the mid-1980s, the digital CMOS series 4000 was added as the V40xx.
- Bipolar TTL circuits ( 74xx series ~ series D ..., DL ..., DS ...., E ...)
- Bipolar analog circuits (Series A ..., B ..., C ...)
- Bipolar Masterslice customer circuits (SBC IA ..., ECL)
- Bipolar full customer IC (SBC, I²L, mixed analog / digital, high voltage)
- CMOS ( 4000 series ~ V40 ..)
- Game consoles ( BSS 01 )
