Martin Wilke (born June 7, 1957 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) is a former non-party German politician . From May 2010 to May 2018 he was Lord Mayor of the City of Frankfurt (Oder). Wilke has been working as a freelance settlement and management consultant since 2018.

education and profession

Wilke attended the 7th Polytechnic High School in Frankfurt (Oder) and then the special school for physics-technical direction Carl-Friedrich-Gauß (today's Gauß-Gymnasium ), where he passed his Abitur in 1976. From 1976 to 1978 he did his basic military service in the National People's Army .

From September 1978 to February 1983 he studied physics at the Technical University of Karl-Marx-Stadt , specializing in electronic components . He then worked until August 1985 as a development engineer in measurement process development at the semiconductor plant in Frankfurt (Oder) . From September 1985 to December 1990 he was group leader for measuring process development for logic components at the same plant. From January to June 1991 he had a work assignment from the management of the semiconductor plant to set up new business areas. He then moved to the Business and Innovation Center Frankfurt (Oder) GmbH (BIC), where he worked as a project manager in the marketing department from July 1991 to January 1993, after which he was authorized signatory at BIC until February 1996. At the same time , Wilke did his doctorate between September 1991 and January 1993 on the subject of the "Concept of a flexible test system" at the TU Chemnitz.

After he had already been deputy managing director of Technologiepark Ostbrandenburg GmbH (TPOB) from October 1993, he took over the management in March 1996. In addition, he was managing director of the Investor Center Ostbrandenburg from March 1996, from August 1999 of ETTC Entwicklungsgesellschaft Frankfurt (Oder) GmbH and from June 2005 managing director of World Trade Center Frankfurt (Oder) GmbH (WTC). After the merger of the aforementioned companies to form Investor Center Ostbrandenburg GmbH, he again took over their management.

Wilke has been working as a freelancer in the area of ​​settlement and management consulting since 2018. He directs u. a. a project team from the Wirtschaftsregion Lausitz GmbH and the Cottbus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) for the acquisition of investors, economic development and regional development of the Brandenburg Lausitz.

As a non-party candidate, he stood up for the mayoral election in Frankfurt (Oder) on March 14, 2010, drawn up by the SPD and supported by an electoral alliance made up of the SPD, CDU, FDP and two civic alliances. With 59.5% of the valid votes, he prevailed against his competitors. He took office on May 6, 2010. During his tenure, he lost the support of the parties that supported him in 2010.

In the election on March 4, 2018, he ran again as no party wanted to nominate him, but as an independent candidate. The “Liberal-Conservative Reformers” faction in the city council called for his election. He stood against the member of the state parliament René Wilke ( Die Linke und Bündnis90 / Die Grünen as “Frankfurt goes better”), the alderman Markus Derling ( CDU ) and Jens-Marcel Ullrich ( SPD ), and Wilko Möller ( AfD ).

In the first round, Wilke was able to unite the second most of the votes cast with 20.3%. On March 18, 2018, he ran a runoff election against René Wilke, who won 43.4% of the votes, in the first round of voting. There Martin Wilke lost 37.5% to René Wilke, who had 62.5% of the vote.
