Lucie Hein
Lucie Hein (born Graedtke ; born September 25, 1910 in Rüdersdorf near Berlin ; † September 15, 1965 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) was a German politician ( SED ). She was Lord Mayor of Frankfurt (Oder) from 1960 to 1965 .
Life
Hein, the daughter of a foreman and a factory worker, attended elementary school in Rüdersdorf and Petershagen and, in 1925/26, the commercial school in Berlin . After completing his training as a shorthand clerk, Hein worked as a shorthand typist in various companies in Petershagen and Berlin from 1926 to 1934 . In 1934 she married a smokers dealer in whose Berlin shop she worked. Her husband died on the Eastern Front in August 1944 .
From 1945 to 1952 Hein was employed as a secretary, clerk and personnel manager at the Petershagen community council. In 1947 she joined the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). From February 1951 to 1953 she was mayor of Petershagen , Strausberg district . From 1952 she was a political assistant or instructor in the State Organs Department at the SED district leadership in Frankfurt (Oder) . After a one-year course at the German Academy for Political Science and Law "Walter Ulbricht" in Potsdam-Babelsberg (1957/58), she was personal assistant to the First Secretary of the SED district leadership in Frankfurt (Oder) from 1958 to 1960, responsible for state issues and bloc politics and church issues . From June 7, 1960 until her death, she was Lord Mayor of Frankfurt (Oder).
During her tenure as mayor, the face of Frankfurt slowly began to change in the sense of a “ socialist city ”: The construction of Karl-Marx-Straße as a main thoroughfare was continued (until 1968), and new apartment blocks were built in the city center as well as on Winzerring and Baumschulenweg (1960–1964), demolition of the old university building due to planned new buildings (1962), start of construction of the “Stadt Frankfurt” hotel and construction of the semiconductor plant in Markendorf (topping-out ceremony for the first hall in April 1960).
Lucie Hein died after a serious illness at the age of 54.
