As low shoe tourists to pejoratively referred mostly inexperienced tourists who walks in the mountains or the high mountains without proper equipment, such as sturdy shoes or protective clothing in case of sudden weather fall , business.

The name is derived from the fact that these hikers are often out and about in low shoes or sandals , which provide little support on stony, steep and narrow paths or on rocks and scree , which regularly leads to injuries to the ankles and serious accidents from falls.

Mountain rescue organizations note, however, that insufficient equipment is less of a reason for mountain accidents today. Since even beginners often have good equipment today, the cause of alpine accidents is increasingly to be found in a lack of coordination and alpine experience.
