features

The beetles reach a body length of 3.5 millimeters and are pale yellow in color. The pronotum is truncated in the middle of the front edge, its front angles protrude long and pointed to the front. The species is very similar to Haliplus flavicollis . However, at the base it has a transverse row of dots that is only imperceptibly coarser than the dots on the front edge. The sides of the pronotum are slightly rounded. The points at the base of the wings are dimple-like and larger than those of the rows of points on the wings . Interrupted, blackish longitudinal lines are often formed on the upper wings. Very rarely the animals are predominantly colored black.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is widespread in western, central and eastern Europe. In the south, it spreads to northern Spain, northern Italy and the north of the Balkans. It is widespread in Central Europe, but mostly rare and only common in places. The animals live in clean, stagnant and slowly flowing waters.
