Jungermannia leiantha is a species of moss from the order of the Jungermanniales .

features

The stems are up to 2.5 centimeters long. They are multiply branched, prostrate and carry light brown rhizoids . The flank leaves are undershot, rounded, rectangular, twice as long as they are wide. In the middle of the leaf, the cells are 25 to 30 × 40 to 50 micrometers in size, their cell corners are thickened triangular to nodular. Each cell contains eight to ten large bodies of oil . A perianth is almost always present, it is cylindrical, has no folds or edges, is longer than the bracts. At the top it is suddenly contracted and bifurcated. The capsule is elongated oval, the spores are brown.

The species breeds . These arise in yellow-green piles at the end of upright, scaly leafy shoots.

Distribution and locations

The species has a boreal distribution and occurs in Europe and North America. In Germany it is found scattered in the low mountain ranges and in the Alps, very rarely in lower elevations. It grows on damp, rotten wood and on lime-free moist soil, preferably on the edges of streams and on lime-free rock.
