Riclef grudge

Riclef Hans-Heinrich Grolle (born August 8, 1934 in Oldenburg , † June 12, 2004 in Jena ) was a German bryologist .

Grolle is the son of a teacher who was called up during World War II and died in 1945. He grew up in his mother's parents' house in Jena . Already in high school he was interested in the flora . In 1951 he joined the Thuringian Botanical Association and was influenced by the botanist Theodor Herzog , who put his focus on moss research.

From 1952 Grolle studied at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena . Due to his polio he had to stop studying botany. Despite severe numbness in both legs and other illness-related restrictions, he returned to the university and graduated in 1959. He was hired by a researcher at the Institute for Plant Research at the University of Jena. He received his doctorate in 1962 and made various contributions to taxonomic research on bryophytes .
