The Haller Lake is a small lake in the north of the central part of Seattle in the State of Washington . It is named after Theodore N. Haller, who parceled out the town of the same name (now a district of Seattle) on the lake in 1905. His father, Granville O. Haller, was one of Seattle's early settlers, an Army officer who amassed large numbers of land in the area.
The Duwamish called the lake "somewhat calmed down" ( Lushootseed : seesáhLtub ), possibly alluding to the fact that the lake was a retreat during the slave raids. The early settlers used the name "Welch Lake" after it was occupied by a British immigrant named John Welch in the 1880s.
The lake is located between N. 128th Street to the north, N. 122nd Street to the south, Densmore Avenue N. to the west, and Corliss Avenue N. to the east. It occupies an area of 15 acres (about 6 hectares); Its volume is approximately 0.3 million cubic meters and the maximum depth is 36 ft (11 m). The bank is private with the exception of two publicly accessible points; these entrances are on Meridian Avenue N. with a right of way on the north bank and on N. 125th Street with a right of way to the west. Haller Lake has a catchment area of 280 acres (113.3 hectares) and an outflow control system on the west side that drains into Lake Union .
The boundaries of the district of the same name are N. 145th Street in the north, beyond which the city of Shoreline lies, the N. Northgate Way in the south, beyond which the district Licton Springs lies, and Washington State Route 99 ( Aurora Avenue ) in the west, beyond which is Bitter Lake and Interstate 5 to the east, behind which the Jackson Park area begins.
Within the neighborhood is Northacres Park, a large wooded public park east of the lake on 1st Avenue NE ; the Ingraham High School , north of the lake at the N. 130th Street ; the Lakeside School , the alma mater of Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Paul Allen , the actor Adam West and the former governor of Washington, Booth Gardner , in the northeast of the district; and the Northwest Hospital & Medical Center , which occupies 33 acres (13.4 hectares) campus southwest of 115th Street .
The Haller Lake Community Club , just north-west of the lake located (12579 Densmore Avenue N.), was established in 1922 as Haller Lake Improvement Club was founded. There is a Wurlitzer theater organ that was installed in 1969.
