The Halligflieder-shrew weevil ( Pseudaplemonus limonii ), also known as the sea lavender shrew weevil , is a species of the Apionidae family .
features
The beetle is 2.8 to 4 millimeters long. It is metallic purple to copper-red in color, sometimes tinged with blue or purple. The surface of the body bears sparse white, lying hair. The trunk is straight and stocky and almost the same in both sexes, the short antennae carry a compact, three-part club. The pronotum is rectangular with a pit in front of the label. The wing covers are bulbous on the sides with the greatest width about in their middle, they have fine stripes with wide spaces.
Way of life
The Hallig lilac shrew weevil takes its name from its host plant: common sea lavender , also known as Hallig lilac . It is likely to be found in other limonium species, in southern parts of its range such as B. Southern Spain and Portugal possibly also on other species such as z. B. Frankenia laevis . In order to reproduce , the beetle gnaws a niche in the root neck with its mouthparts . The beetle lays its eggs in the hole that is created and then closes it again with a secretion. The larva feeds on the inside of the root neck and the lower part of the stem. Beetles have been observed from June to mid-October.
