The Hallo Bay is a sandy bay below the peaks of the Aleutian Range in Katmai National Park in the US state of Alaska is.
fauna
The bay is known for the large brown bear population . Brown bears can be seen along the mudflats and grass as they dig up mussels from the mud or graze on the salt marshes . In July the bears can be seen fishing for salmon. The food supply in the bay is very rich with salt marshes, mussels and salmon, so many brown bears are often there at the same time. The bears have not been hunted there for decades and have got used to the people over time. However, an incident in 2003 cost bear expert Timothy Treadwell his life not far from Hallo Bay.
Visitors to the bay should know that the only places to sleep other than tents are several small huts and a dining area known as the Hallo Bay Camp. However, there are numerous day trips without an overnight stay to Hallo Bay to observe the brown bears.
