Halothamnus lancifolius is a species of the genus Halothamnus fromthe foxtail family ( Amaranthaceae ).
features
Halothamnus lancifolius is a 45 cm high shrub with cyan, light striped branches. The flat and somewhat fleshy leaves are lanceolate-triangular or linear-triangular, up to 43 mm long and 1.9–4.5 mm wide and run down 1–5 mm on the stem. The bracts are flat and lanceolate, as are the propsheets , which protrude obliquely and are only skin-margined at the base. The flowers are 3.8–4.8 mm long with lanceolate-ovate tepals , the stigmas are rounded at the tip. The winged fruit reaches 9-14 mm in diameter, its wings set below the center. The Tepalenzipfel incline steeply conically together. The fruit tube is cylindrical and has deep, comma or line-shaped pits at the base.
Occurrence
The range of Halothamnus lancifolius includes Syria , Israel and Palestine , Jordan , western Iraq , Egypt ( Sinai ) and northwestern Saudi Arabia . It grows on stony, often salty soils from minus 400 to 1500 m above sea level.
Systematics
The species was first described in 1853 by Pierre Edmond Boissier as Caroxylon lancifolium . In 1993 Gabriele Kothe-Heinrich placed them in the genus Halothamnus at species level .
