David Van der Gulik (born April 20, 1983 in Abbotsford , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was most recently under contract with the Düsseldorfer EG in the German Ice Hockey League .
Career
David Van der Gulik began his career as a hockey player with the Chilliwack Chiefs, for whom he was active in the British Columbia Hockey League from 2000 to 2002 . He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2002 in the seventh round as a total of 206th player by the Calgary Flames . Initially, however, the attacker played for the Boston University team for four years before he was accepted into the squad of Calgary's then farm team , the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights of the American Hockey League , before the 2006/07 season . After he was exclusively the new AHL farm team, the Quad City Flames , on the ice in the following season , he made his debut in the National Hockey League for Calgary on February 27, 2009 in the game against the Minnesota Wild .
In July 2010 he signed a contract with the Colorado Avalanche as a free agent . After he had started the 2010/11 season in the NHL roster of the Avalanche and was used in five games, Van der Gulik was sent to the Lake Erie Monsters in the AHL. In the following years he switched regularly between NHL and AHL, but without really asserting himself in the NHL squad.
After four years in Colorado, his expiring contract was not renewed, so he joined the Los Angeles Kings as a free agent in July 2014 . For the Kings, the left shooter only played one game in the NHL in the 2014/15 season, but won the Calder Cup with the Manchester Monarchs in the AHL . In November 2015, van der Gulik decided to move to Europe and signed a contract with the Düsseldorfer EG from the German Ice Hockey League until the end of the 2015/16 season .
