Handicraft and artistic lessons
In Waldorf Schools ' pedagogy, the artisanal and artistic lessons or artistic-practical lessons describe a group of subjects that aim to develop the pupils' artistic - creative and practical - manual skills. In a narrower sense, artisanal and artistic instruction (often abbreviated as HKU ) or artistic and practical instruction (KPU) is a special form of instruction in the upper level of Waldorf schools.
The technical and artistic subjects taught from the first to the last school year take place in grades 1 to 8 following the morning epoch lessons of the class teacher, who deals with the German-language main subjects. Which subjects belong to the craft-artistic or artistic-practical subjects is handled differently at the Waldorf schools. This includes music, painting, gardening, handicrafts (carpenters), handicrafts, eurythmy and others.
The upper level is carried out in two branches at different Waldorf schools: firstly for the pupils who want to do the Abitur and secondly for the pupils who are aiming for a vocational training. Accordingly, then the different timetables . The students who are not preparing for the Abitur can choose between several specializations, for example carpenters, housekeeping, tailoring. In the graduation ceremony at the end of the 12th grade they present their work to the public.
The handicraft and artistic lessons (HKU) for high school graduates can be organized in a relaxed epoch form. This means that the same subject is taught several times a week, which is replaced by another after a period of several weeks. In this context z. B. subjects such as carpentry , packaging technology , bookbinding , basket weaving , forging , art history , stonemasons , tailoring , technical or artistic drawing and painting are taught.
