history

The Chamber of Crafts for Alsace-Lorraine was established by decree of the Imperial Ministry of December 6, 1899. The chamber district was the Reichsland Alsace-Lorraine , the seat was Strasbourg . The chamber was divided regionally into four departments:

  1. the districts of Mulhouse , Altkirch and Thann with headquarters in Mulhouse
  2. the districts of Colmar , Gebweiler and Rappoltsweiler with headquarters in Colmar
  3. the district of Lower Alsace with its seat in Strasbourg
  4. the Lorraine district with its seat in Metz

The statute of the Chamber of Crafts was issued by the Imperial Ministry on May 28, 1900. The district president in Strasbourg acted as the supervisory authority.

The Chamber of Crafts had 36 members. These (and 36 substitutes) were elected according to § 103a Reichsgewerbeordnung (RGO) . The electoral code of December 21, 1899 determined the electoral process and the distribution to the individual electoral bodies. The Chamber of Crafts was able to decide to expand the number of members by electing 7 experts. Those elected had the same rights and duties as the other members of the Chamber of Crafts, but did not have to be craftsmen.

The first chamber elections of the chamber members took place on March 8, on April 22 and 29, 1900. The constituent meeting of the Chamber of Crafts took place on June 30, 1900. From 1900 to March 1913, 26 plenary sessions, 107 board meetings and a large number of meetings of the individual committees were held.

From 1911 the Chamber of Commerce elected a member of the first chamber of the Landtag of the Reichsland Alsace-Lorraine in accordance with the constitution of the Reichsland Alsace-Lorraine of May 31, 1911 . They were Francois Xavier Ley (Colmar Chamber of Crafts, center) and Wilhelm Weißmann (Lorraine Chamber of Crafts, liberal).

In 1923 the Chamber of Crafts was split and the CMA was created as one of the spin-offs. For the Moselle department which was Chambre de métiers de la Moselle formed.
