Hanna Levy hatred

Hanna Levy-Hass (born March 18, 1913 in Sarajevo ; † June 10, 2001 in Jerusalem ) was a Yugoslav - Jewish - communist resistance fighter against the Nazi regime and survivor of the Shoah .

Life

Hanna Levy-Hass grew up in a Jewish family in Sarajevo. As a young woman she joined the Communist Party of Yugoslavia and became involved against the German occupation of her country. She was arrested by the Gestapo in February 1944 and deported to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in the summer of the same year . Here she managed to secretly keep records of camp life. When the camp was cleared in 1945, she was on an evacuation transport and was liberated by Soviet troops. She first returned to Yugoslavia, but emigrated to Israel in 1948 .

In the early 1980s she toured Western Europe , temporarily living in Geneva and Paris . In the mid-1980s, she thought about returning to Yugoslavia. She wanted to stay there forever.

Hanna became the mother of her daughter Amira . She died in Jerusalem in 2001.
