Hannah Bardell (born June 1, 1983 in Livingston ) is a Scottish politician of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Life

Bardell was born in the Craigshill district of Livingston in 1983 . She attended Broxburn Academy and then studied at Stirling University . As a teenager she won the Pushkin Prize for creative writing and was invited to Saint Petersburg . After completing her studies, Bardell first worked for the TV station STV in Glasgow , then for GMTV in London , among other things as a production assistant for the political Sunday program. She then worked for the US State Department in its consulate in Edinburgh . Most recently, she was head of communications and marketing at a company in the oil and gas industry.

Political career

In the run-up to the Scottish parliamentary elections in 2007 , Bardell was part of the production team for the SNP advertising campaign. She then headed the constituency office of First Minister and Member of the Scottish and British Parliaments, Alex Salmond . She also worked for the member of the European Parliament Ian Hudghton .

In the general election in 2015 , the SNP placed Bardell as a candidate in her home constituency Livingston . With the massive gains in votes by the SNP in these elections, Bardell was able to win a majority of 56.9% and subsequently moved into the British House of Commons for the first time . In doing so, she prevailed against incumbent Labor MP Graeme Morrice . Despite losing votes, Bardell maintained her mandate in the early general election in 2017 .
