The Canon Lahitolle de 95 mm , (short: modèle 1875 ) was the first modern gun of the French armed forces. It was used from 1875 to 1945. The constructor was the Lieutenant-Colonel of the artillery, Henri Périer de Lahitolle . It was made by the "Fabriqué aux établissements militaires de Bourges ".
It was one of the first cannons with a screw cap. Introduced into the army in 1875, it replaced the Canon Reffye de 85 mm . As early as 1877 it was replaced by the Canon de 90 mm modèle 1877 . In 1888 the combat value was increased again. Both guns were used throughout the First World War and until 1945. The field artillery was mostly equipped with the Canon de 75 mm modèle 1897 gun, the two older models were only used here occasionally. The vast majority of cannons were found in the fortress artillery units, in the forts of the Barrière de fer and later in the bunkers of the Maginot Line .
The German Wehrmacht installed captured artillery in the Atlantic Wall .
The field gun carriage and fortress carriage did not have a barrel return brake, the mount "G" was equipped with a hydraulic barrel return brake.
The maximum firing range with the field gun carriage was 6420, with the siege carriage: 8250 m.
The purchase price per piece was 6000 gold francs (according to the currency of the time).
