The 20.3 cm cannon (E) was a German railway gun used by the Wehrmacht during World War II .

history

The cannon was the modified 20.3 cm SK C / 34 , as it was used on the German cruisers of the Admiral Hipper class . In 1939 the navy handed the surplus guns over to the army, where they were assembled with a railway carriage construction from the First World War .

The cannon, which was delivered in eight copies between 1940 and 1942, could be used independently of existing tracks on tracks and turntables built at short notice .

They were the only 20.3 cm caliber guns in the entire army. This led to problems with the ammunition supply. To summarize the few ammunition, all guns were used for coastal defense behind the Atlantic Wall in Cherbourg and Brest in occupied France. In July 1944 some were captured by the advancing US troops.
