The 5 cm Flak 41 (Flak = anti -aircraft gun) was an anti -aircraft gun used by the Wehrmacht during World War II .

history

The 5 cm Flak 41 was developed from 1936 to close the performance gap between the 3.7 cm Flak 36 and the 8.8 cm Flak 18 . After the first prototype had been manufactured, tests were carried out up to series production in 1940. 60 flak were sent to the front in November 1941. After that, production was stopped again, as the need for heavy anti-aircraft guns increased and the production of the 5 cm Flak 41 tied up otherwise urgently needed resources.

In January 1944 there were still 58 5 cm Flak 41s in service with the Luftwaffe, compared to 29 in January 1945.

The flak weighed 3,100 kilograms and could shoot 2.2 kilograms of HE shells 9400 meters high. It was used stationary or as a movable flak on two-axle special trailers with a cross mount.
