Tourelle de 155 C modèle 1908 was the name for a French armored turret with a shortened cannon ( C stands for court - short) of caliber 155 mm for action at short range. In the broadest sense, it was a so-called minimal chart cannon .
description
The dome was made of armor material (tough steel) with a wall of 30 cm and a diameter of 3.8 meters. It sat on an armored armor with a gun well , could be rotated 360 °, but could not be sunk.
The non-visible area ( dead space ) of the affected forts should be coated and secured with this type of armored turret. They were installed outside the ramparts in a concrete cylinder. It was completely sunk in the ground and thus protected from direct fire. The facility was divided into three floors:
- the bottom floor was where the entrance, the mechanics for the tower rotating mechanism and the hand-operated fan were located
- on the middle floor was the warehouse for the ready ammunition and the mechanics for the hand-operated ammunition elevator
- on the upper floor, finally, the gun platform with the gun
Of the armored domes initially planned, only four were made, of which only two were installed. After the German occupation of France, these were then expanded by the OT after 1940 and used for steel production. The whereabouts of the other two domes is not known; they were probably also scrapped.
