Fort de Bois-d'Arcy

The Fort de Bois-d'Arcy as a battery de Bois-d'Arcy known is one of the fortresses around the French capital Paris has been built around it to protect it.

The fort is located in the municipality of Bois-d'Arcy in the Yvelines department . Today it houses the French film archive of the Center national du cinéma et de l'image animée .

history

It was built between 1874 and 1881. The Bois d'Arcy Fort was supposed to protect Fort de Saint-Cyr , Versailles and the camp de Satory. During the Second World War the fort was occupied by the German Wehrmacht . Before the retreat in 1944, the Germans blew it up.

In the 1960s, the fort was taken over by the French Ministry of Culture and the Center national du cinéma et de l'image animée was established there. The most important French films are stored there. It continues to do this today. It has been recognized as a historical monument since 1991.
