Hannah Lessing
Hannah M. Lessing (born April 26, 1963 in Vienna ) is an Austrian graduate of the Vienna University of Economics and Business and has been Secretary General of the National Fund of the Republic of Austria for Victims of National Socialism since 1995 .
Life
Hannah Lessing is the daughter of the photographer Erich Lessing . She graduated from the Lycée Français de Vienne in Vienna and studied commercial science at the Vienna University of Economics and Business , which she received in 1988 with a Magister rer. soc. oec. completed. From 2001 to 2002 Lessing graduated from the Federal Administration Academy .
In the 1978 series Holocaust - The History of the Weiss Family , Hannah Lessing played the role of the Jew Sofia Alatri, who was murdered by Germans in a gas chamber of a concentration camp.
Lessing was involved in the negotiations on the Washington Compensation Agreement in January 2001. She has headed the General Settlement Fund for Victims of National Socialism since 2001 and the Fund for the Restoration of Jewish Cemeteries in Austria since 2010 . Since 2011 she has been the representative for Austria in the International Committee of the Auschwitz Foundation and a board member of the Documentation Archive of the Austrian Resistance (DÖW).
Awards
- 2001 Silver Medal for Services to the Republic of Austria
- In September 2007 she received the Shofar of Freedom Award for her work in favor of the survivors of the Holocaust , which has been given since 1990 by the Temple Israel Synagogue in Albany, New York.
- 2009 Chevalier de l'Ordre national du Mérite (France)
- 2013 Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art
- 2015 Rosa Jochmann badge
- 2017 Gold Medal for Services to the State of Vienna
