Hanne Desmet (born October 26, 1996 in Wilrijk ) is a Belgian short tracker .

Career

Desmet started internationally for the first time at the European Championships 2015 in Dordrecht and finished 27th in the all-around competition. The following year she won 23rd place at the European Championships in Sochi and 26th place in the all- around competition at the World Championships in Seoul . She made her debut in the Short Track World Cup in February 2016 in Dresden , which she finished in 37th place over 500 m and 27th place over 1500 m. At the European Championships 2017 in Turin she came in 15th place and at the World Championships 2017 in Rotterdam on 25th place in the all-around competition. The following year she finished 18th at the European Championships in Dresden and 17th at the World Championships in Montreal . In the 2018/19 season she reached ninth place overall over 1500 m with five top ten placements. At the European Championships in Dordrecht in 2019 , she won the silver medal in the 3000 m and finished fifth in the all-around competition. In March 2019 she was tenth in the all- around at the World Championships in Sofia . In the following season, she came in the top ten four times in the 1500 m World Cup. With third place in Montreal, she achieved her first podium in the World Cup and at the end of the season she finished tenth in the World Cup over 1500 m. At the European Championships 2020 in Debrecen , she was eighth in the all-around competition.

Her brother Stijn is also active as a short tracker.
