Hannes Hopf

Hannes Hopf (* 1968 in Eisenach ; † July 2007 also in Eisenach) was a neo-Dadaist installation artist , painter , graphic artist , philosopher and German-language poet . Hannes Hopf worked under various pseudonyms such as "Rigel". He committed in July 2007 suicide .

After studying philosophy and art history in Leipzig and Berlin from 1991 to 1998, Hopf devoted himself to Neodadaism in the tradition of Marcel Duchamp . Hopf's outstanding art object was his own apartment, into which he withdrew in self-chosen isolation and lived from the material things of our time in self-chosen minimalism. Hopf took the view that an artist can only exist in isolation and isolation . In the ideological successor to Duchamp, Hopf concentrated more and more on the ready-made philosophy ( object art ), according to which completely unchanged everyday objects can be designated as art objects by an artist simply because the artist had chosen them. In 1995 Hannes Hopf began his work on the "Black Room", which he continued until his death, as well as on the "Crystal Archives".

Hopf, who suffered from mental health problems especially in the last years of his life and was treated for them, destroyed many of his installations immediately or shortly after their completion. The estate secured after his death must therefore be viewed as not very representative.
