Hannesebuche (March 2008)

description

The beech is in very good condition with only a small amount of dead wood in the crown. The trunk is full of wood and without any noticeable impairments. The tree has a large harmonious crown with a diameter of about 23 and a height of 21 meters. The trunk had a circumference of 5.59 meters at the point of its smallest diameter (waist) in 1992 and 6.19 meters in 2012. Measured at a height of one meter, the trunk circumference was 6.35 meters in 2012. According to the German Tree Archives , for which the trunk circumference at a height of one meter is the most important selection criterion, the beech is slightly below the limit (6.5 meters at a height of one meter) to the nationally important trees (NBB). The waist circumference is above the lower limit of 6.00 meters.

Twin beech

In the immediate vicinity of the Hannesebuche there was another, somewhat stronger beech that was hit by a shell during a battle during World War II . The trunk broke into two parts. One part had rotted away in the 1950s, the other, which in the 1960s had a crown almost as large as the Hannesebuche, was most recently largely destroyed by a lightning strike, with remnants remaining until the 1990s.

Old beech

About one kilometer southwest of the Hannesebuche there is another red beech, which has also been registered as a natural monument since 1959 with the number 672-N / 025 and the name Old Beech . The age of this beech is given as about 300 years, the trunk circumference was about 7.5 meters in 2007. This makes the tribe one of the strongest in Germany. However, the beech was badly damaged by a storm in March 1988 and died completely in the next few years. Currently there is only one torso of the trunk.
