The Hannewackersee is a lake in the city of Aschaffenburg in Bavaria .

geography

The Hannewackersee is located in the south-west of the Fasanerie on the edge of the approximately 20,000 square meter Großutterwiese , near the center of Aschaffenburg. Opposite the Herz-Jesu-Kirche , the small lake is surrounded by trees. The approximately 50 m long and 20 m wide Hannewackersee is now traversed by the canalized Kühruhgraben , which then flows into a branch of the Röderbach .

history

The name "Hannewackersee" can be seen as the result of the attempt to transform the actual colloquial designation of the pond on the grandmother meadow and the children's paddling pool that was created next to it, namely Hannewackel-Dudel-See, into official German, which was introduced before the war. The name "Hannewackeldudelsee" is explained by a story according to which a drunk named Hannewacker died in the lake. Otherwise, Hannewackel describes a little boy in the Aschaffenburg colloquial language who is learning to walk; Dudel means pacifier. The name Hannewackel-Dudel-See was used in official correspondence, for example by the civil engineering office and city treasury. The children's paddling pool and the adjacent former ice rink of the winter sports club were replaced by a sealed water playground in 2016. Only the Hannewackel-Dudel-See lake has been preserved as a pond on the grandmother meadow.
