The Kühruhgraben is a stream in the city of Aschaffenburg in Bavaria .

geography

course

The Kühruhgraben has several springs, some of which are piped. A spring is located on the slope of the Godelsberg , on the property of the air, sun and Kneipp baths operated in the 1930s by the then association for health care (today naturopathic association and general sports association Aschaffenburg 1902 eV). Two more are located on the slope of the Büchelberg . The Kühruhgraben initially flows to the southwest and takes on the Hechelsgraben.

The well room in Haibach

The Hechelsgraben rises from the shepherd's fountain in Haibach at the foot of the Büchelberg near the boundary with Aschaffenburg. There is also a spring to the west of Haibach am Wendelberg , the water of which is taken in a well . This well room was built in 1525 to supply the Johannisburg Palace with drinking water and restored from 2001 to 2002. The spring water flows from the fountain house through stone pipes.

The Kühruhgraben then runs north-west into the city center of Aschaffenburg. Partly piped, it flows to the ring road . There the Hofwasserleitung ran under an iron footbridge over the railway line until 2000. At the Großmutterwiese , the Kühruhgraben is led through the Hannewackersee and fed to the canalised left arm of the Röderbach . In its natural state, the Kühruhgraben flowed from the Hannewackersee past the Auhof to the Pfaffenmühle in Damm and there it flowed into the Aschaff .

history

Stone tablet at the well room

The Elector of Mainz, Albrecht von Brandenburg , had the well room built on the Hechelsgraben in 1525, from which the spring water was directed to the Aschaffenburg Castle. The construction of Johannisburg Palace between 1605 and 1614 brought the line to be expanded. Wooden pipes were replaced by clay pipes. The aqueduct remained partially in operation until 1939. The electoral coat of arms of Albrecht from 1525 attached to the well room is so badly damaged that a new one had to be made.

The well was covered in the 1960s when building rubble was dumped. When they were found again in the 1990s, only a small piece of the fountain house protruded from the ground. The whole area was overgrown with bushes; the system is no longer recognizable as such. After the clearing of vegetation on the site of the earth was removed. The reconstruction of the well room and the new construction of the shelter for the found pipe elements followed the layout design in 2002. The structure got all original functions back. The two back walls, the sedimentation basin , the floor and the right door post are original parts and as such have been preserved in their original condition. The sandstone pillars on the valley side and the front cover plate were rebuilt.

There are also shafts and pipes from the former Büchelberg water pipeline in the Kühruhgraben. This aqueduct was built in the second half of the 19th century, but was taken out of service before the turn of the century.
