The Hannibal housing estate in the Asemwald district of Stuttgart was built from 1968 to 1972 and consists of three almost identical apartment blocks with a height of up to 70 meters and 23 floors. Two blocks are slightly offset in a line, one is at right angles to it.

The Asemwald also has a shopping center, a tennis court, and a Protestant and a Catholic kindergarten. The publicly accessible panorama swimming pool with sauna caused a stir at the time of construction. Another public restaurant ( Bella Vista Sky Restaurant ) is located on the top floor of the Asemwald 52-62 building with a view of the Stuttgart TV tower , the Filder with Stuttgart Airport and the Swabian Alb .

In this way, a self-sufficient residential town for a planned 3,000 residents (today 1,800 residents due to the increased housing requirements) with a total of 1143 apartments was created on the Filder plateau . Many of today's residents moved in in the early 1970s.

Originally, a single complex was planned (based on Corbusier's model of the “ living machine ”), but this was not approved due to its dimensions, which were considered incompatible with urban planning.

Contrary to numerous negative examples of multi-storey apartment building in the 1960s and 1970s, Asemwald has developed into a coveted place of residence with a very high quality of living.

The residential buildings are divided into 1,137 condominiums with a total living space of 91,413 m². It is one of the largest home owner associations in Germany. Six apartments belong to the community and are u. a. inhabited by caretakers. There are several caretakers with fixed office opening hours, the administrative advisory board publishes a magazine several times a year in which, for example, reports on the review of the utility bill, but also adverts are published. The annual owners' meeting requires a lot of organizational effort. In 2017 it took place in the Filderhalle , for example , using a bus shuttle from the residential city. In 2017, the community of owners had a maintenance reserve of around two million euros. Around 1.7 million euros are to be invested in maintenance annually by 2030, and 1.5 million euros are to be added to the reserve every year, so that this will decrease in the future.
