Hanns Reinartz

Hanns Reinartz (born June 7, 1911 in Düsseldorf ; † December 1, 1988 in Würzburg ) was the first president of the University of Music Würzburg and professor of conducting there . In the 1930s he was among other things assistant to Richard Strauss and Hans Pfitzner, in 1940 musical director of the Bonner Bühnen, in 1946 city music director in Solingen, from 1951 first conductor in Wuppertal. From 1954 to 1956 he was the opera conductor at the National Theater in Weimar. In 1956 he was appointed to Würzburg, where he was initially director of what was then the Bavarian State Conservatory of Music. Under his leadership, the former State Conservatory was elevated to the rank of the second Bavarian University of Music in 1973, and he remained president until his retirement in 1979.

At the same time he was active as a conductor, especially for works of the Baroque, and as part of the Würzburg Mozart Festival and the Würzburg Bach Days.
