Hannu Rajaniemi

Hannu Rajaniemi (* 9. March 1978 in Ylivieska , Finland ) is a Finnish science fiction - and fantasy - author . He lives in Edinburgh , Scotland and is a co-founder of the technology consulting firm ThinkTank Maths.

Life

Rajaniemi received a B.Sc. in Mathematics from the University of Oulu , a Certificate of Advanced Study in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge and a Ph.D. in mathematical physics from the University of Edinburgh . Before obtaining his doctorate , he completed his military service as a researcher for the Finnish armed forces .

While he was doing his Ph.D. Made in Edinburgh, Rajaniemi joined the Writers 'Bloc, an Edinburgh writers' group that gave semi-regular spoken word performances and Charles Stross among its members. These early works included his first short story Shibuya no Love, published in 2003, and his short story Deus Ex Homine in Nova Scotia , a 2005 anthology of Scottish science fiction and fantasy that caught the attention of his current agent, John Jarrold.
