Dutch Reformed Church in Hanover

Hanover is a small city in southern South Africa in the Northern Cape Province . The city is named after the German city of Hanover and had 4,594 inhabitants in 2011. The main source of income are the merino sheep .

history

On July 17, 1854, six men bought the Petrusvallei farm for 33,333 Rixdollars . The farm became a city; P. Watermayer, who held the office until 1888, became the first mayor. In 1859 the city limits were set and the first church was built. The future President of the South African Republic , Thomas François Burgers , was the first pastor there. His family published his descriptions of life in Hanover.
