Hans-Dieter Lembens

Hans-Dieter Lembens (born January 9, 1933 in Rostock ; † January 3, 2010 in Berlin ) was a German drummer and solo timpanist .

After studying at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin, he joined the Berlin Symphony Orchestra (GDR) as a solo timpanist in 1956 and stayed there, interrupted by a short time at the Saarbrücken State Theater , until the Wall was built in 1961. As a West Berliner , he had to Leave the orchestra. In 1962 he became a member of the Berliner Philharmoniker , to which he was a drummer and deputy solo timpanist for 36 years, until his retirement in August 1998. He also became known through his many years of teaching in the main subject percussion instruments at the Berlin University of the Arts .

Lembens worked under the direction of Herbert von Karajan in a variety of record productions and CD releases.
