Hans-Georg Pillarz (born October 7,  1941 - † September 6,  2018 in Wedel ) was a German boxer .

Life

Pillarz, who competed in the weight class up to 54 kilograms and for the Wedeler TSV, was three times German amateur runner-up until 1972. He also won ten Hamburg championship titles in the bantam and featherweight classes.

After he had already finished third twice in German championships in previous years, he moved into the final for the first time at the end of April 1969. There he was defeated in the title fights held in West Berlin to the much inexperienced Georg Diem on points. About a month later Pillarz took part in the European Championships in Bucharest , he was eliminated in the preliminary round against the Englishman Mickey Piner. In April 1971, Pillarz faced Werner Schäfer at the German championship in Kiel in the fight for gold. According to the Hamburger Abendblatt, he had a “brilliant performance”, but lost on points. At the German championship in 1972 he had to admit defeat on points to the future European champion René Weller (then 18 years old) in the final . “For Pillarz, the exemplary, always modest athlete, the consolation remains that he has maintained a top position in national boxing for many years,” said reporter Hermann Rüping at the end of April 1972, summarizing the boxer's appearance at the championship in Eppelheim for the Hamburger Abendblatt .

In April 1976, after Pillarz's victory at the Hamburg championship, a dispute broke out between the Hamburg boxing association and the Wedeler TSV, because the now 34-year-old Pillarz was not considered for participation in the North German championship despite winning the title. The Hansi called Pillarz who professionally Glaser worked, died in September 2018 in his hometown of Wedel.
