Hans-Hermann Höhmann

Hans-Hermann Höhmann (born August 15, 1933 in Kassel ) is a German social scientist , Freemason and Freemason researcher.

Education and professional career

From 1953 to 1959 Höhmann studied social sciences and Eastern European studies at the Philipps University of Marburg and the Free University of Berlin . In 1978 he was at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main Dr. rer. pole. PhD. In 1979/80 Höhmann was a Research Fellow at the Russian Research Center ( Harvard University ), the Kennan Institute (Washington DC) and the Department of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley .

From 1962 to 1998 Höhmann worked at the Federal Institute for Eastern and International Studies in Cologne, from 1986 as head of the economics research department and most recently as deputy director of the institute. Since 1988 he has been honorary professor at the University of Cologne (political science). From 1998 to 2004, Höhmann was head of the research focus on economics at the Research Center Eastern Europe and lecturer at the University of Bremen (economic and political culture, system transformation in Eastern Europe). Since then he has been working as a freelance academic journalist.

Board memberships (selection)

Höhmann was a member of the board of the German Society for Eastern European Studies (1987-1993), member of the scientific advisory board of the Federal Agency for Civic Education , Bonn (1994-2002), member of the program advisory board of the East-West Science Center at the University of Kassel (until 2003 ) and member of the program committee of the World Congress for Eastern European Studies, Warsaw 1995. Within the German Society for Economic and Social Sciences ( Verein für Socialpolitik ) he was a member of the committee for comparing economic systems from 1968 to 1998.

Freemasonry

Höhmann has been a Freemason since 1958 and has held numerous lodge and grand lodge offices. After the German-German unification, he played a key role in setting up Masonic lodges in the new federal states. From 1999 to 2007 Höhmann headed the Freemason Research Society "Quatuor Coronati", from 2007 to 2013 he was chairman of the scientific advisory board of the research society. Since 2006 he has been a speaker at the Grand Lodge of the Old Free and Accepted Masons of Germany . With the sociologist Jörg R. Bergmann, University of Bielefeld, Höhmann initiated the “ Network Freemason Research” in 2002 .
