Hans-Jürgen Prien

Hans-Jürgen Prien (born May 17, 1935 in Hamburg ) is a German Protestant theologian and professor emeritus.

life and career

After his business assistant examination, Prien was director of an export branch in El Salvador from 1958 to 1961 .

From 1961 he studied Protestant theology , history and ancient American studies . In 1967 he acquired his Dr. theol. In 1969 he passed his second theological exam and became the pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hamburg state ordained .

From 1969 to 1973 he taught church history and dogma history at the theological faculty in São Leopoldo in southern Brazil. He was visiting professor in Managua / Nicaragua, Buenos Aires, Lisbon, Fortaleza / Brazil, Havana and Lima.

After receiving his habilitation in church and dogma history at the University of Hamburg in 1979 , he initially worked here as a lecturer and was appointed professor for church history at the University of Marburg in 1986 . In 1992/93 he became professor for Iberian and Latin American history at the University of Cologne .
