Hans-Joachim Wegener

Hans-Joachim Wegener (born May 18, 1911 in Vessin , † August 31, 1993 in Cuxhaven ) was a German politician (CDU).

Wegener attended the Realgymnasium in Köslin in Pomerania and graduated from high school in 1929. He then studied German, geography and folklore at the universities of Hamburg, Heidelberg and Königsberg, where he passed the state examination in 1936. This was followed by a legal clerkship at several Pomeranian high schools and in 1938 the assessor examination in Berlin. From 1940 he was a soldier. He became a prisoner of war in England, from which he was released as a first lieutenant in autumn 1945. He then became a teacher at secondary schools in Cuxhaven and Otterndorf in Lower Saxony, most recently as director of studies. From 1960 he was a member of the City Council of Cuxhaven. From 1968 to 1972 he was also Lord Mayor of the city, and then First Mayor. From 1970 to 1978 he was a member of the seventh and eighth electoral terms of the Lower Saxony state parliament.
