Hans-Joachim Ziegeler

Hans-Joachim Ziegeler (born November 28, 1944 in Mühlhausen / Thuringia ) is a German Germanist and professor emeritus for older German literature at the University of Cologne .

Life

Ziegeler studied German and history in Würzburg and Tübingen, where he joined the Tübingen royal company Roigel in 1966. In 1971 he passed the first state examination and in 1972 the second state examination and was then an assessor at the grammar school and in graduate support. Between 1974 and 1991 he was a research assistant at the German Department of the University of Tübingen. His doctorate took place in 1981 and his habilitation in 1991. He was professor at the universities of Konstanz, Munich, Cologne and Aachen and has been professor for German literature of the late Middle Ages and early modern times at the Institute for German Language and Literature University of Cologne since 1996.

Focus in research and teaching

Ziegeler conducts research on German literature from the 9th to 16th centuries in historical and cultural contexts. He is dedicated to the history of narration, the theory of genres and the history of tradition. Recently he has been researching the subject of text and image.
