Hans-Peter Linss (born July 15, 1928 in Kamenz ; † July 6, 2007 in Aufkirchen ) was a German bank manager and Islamic scholar. He was a member of the board of directors of Bayerische Landesbank for 19 years and was its chairman from 1988 to 1993. In addition, he appeared as a sponsor of various associations and foundations.

Life

Linss moved with his parents from Kamenz to Cologne, where he passed his Abitur at the humanistic Freikönigs-Gymnasium in 1948. This was followed by studies in classical philology, Semitic languages, Islamic studies and history at the universities of Mainz and Bonn . In 1953 he did his doctorate with Otto Spies with the dissertation "Problems of Islamic Dogmatics". After a banking apprenticeship at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Bank, he worked in various positions at Deutsche Bank , including its representative for the Near and Middle East in Cairo. Most recently he was director at the headquarters in Frankfurt with responsibility for all international business. In 1974, Linss moved to the board of directors of Bayerische Landesbank with responsibility for international business, foreign lending and foreign exchange trading. From 1988 to 1993 he was chairman of the board.

Act

Linss was a member of the Heinz Bosl Foundation , the Oversea's Bankers Club, the Association for the Promotion of the Old and New Pinakothek , the Egyptian Collections , the Tölzer Knabenchor and the European Movement Bavaria eV He also supported the patrons and friends of the Bavarian State Library eV and was an honorary member of the Munich University of Music . Furthermore, he was chairman of the board of trustees of the Südosteuropa-Gesellschaft and wrote the book “Deutschland und die Völker Südosteuropas. Festschrift for Walter Althammer on his 65th birthday ”. In addition, in 1984 Fritz Knapp Verlag published a contribution to the colloquium on the subject of off-shore credit markets with the title “Asian dollar market Singapore”.

Hans-Peter Linss was always in the mood for jokes, which was evident from the fact that, as Chairman of the Board of Management of BayernLB, he disguised himself as a cleaning lady or cook at Carnival and asked his employees to tip unrecognized for his alleged services or by his quote that was circulating on the Internet : "Break the thermometer and we'll get rid of the fever!"

In 1972 he was appointed Knight of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Maximilien Cardinal de Fürstenberg and on December 9, 1972 in Aachen Cathedral by Lorenz Cardinal Jaeger , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy.
