Hans-Peter Mayer (born May 5, 1944 in Riedlingen ) was a member of the CDU's European Parliament for Lower Saxony in the European People's Party from 1999 to 2014 .

Career

After his second state examination in law and his doctorate as Dr. jur. utr. He started as a freelance lawyer in Bad Waldsee in 1975, where he was also a city ​​councilor from 1975 to 1980 . During these years he worked on a voluntary basis as chairman of the city youth association and as chairman of the Free Catholic School Association "Eugen Bolz" with preschool kindergarten, elementary and secondary school. He joined the CDU in 1975 when he joined the Junge Union in 1968 . From 1980 until 1990 he became professor for law and administration at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences in Northern Germany with the departments in Vechta and Osnabrück. In 1990 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD. After that he was rector of the university until 1991.

From 1991 to 1994 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Economics and Technology of Saxony-Anhalt . After the change of government he worked as a lawyer again.

From 1995 to 1999 Mayer was regional chairman of the Economic Council of the CDU of Saxony-Anhalt and of the Federal Commission on European Policy . In 1999 he was elected to the European Parliament. There he was a member of the legal committee. From 2006 to 2014 he was a member of the state executive committee of the CDU Lower Saxony.

Mayer is a member of the Catholic student union AV Cheruskia Tübingen in the CV .
