Hans-Rudolf Kurz

Hans-Rudolf Kurz (born April 23, 1915 in Bern ; † June 29, 1990 there ; entitled to live in Bern and Langnau in the Emmental ) was a Swiss military historian .

Life

The son of the grammar school teacher Albert Kurz and the later "refugee mother" Gertrud Kurz studied law at the University of Bern . In 1940 he obtained the advocacy patent for the Canton of Bern, and in 1943 he received his doctorate. He joined the federal administration and worked for the Federal Military Department from 1946 , where he held the position of deputy director from 1975 until his retirement in 1980. Briefly taught military law at the ETH Zurich . From 1973 to 1990 (from 1980 as honorary professor) he taught military history at the University of Bern. In 1987/88 he was chairman of the international commission of historians investigating the Waldheim affair .

From 1973 to 1984 Kurz was a member of the Great Citizens' Council of the Civic Community of Bern . In the Swiss Army he was a general staff officer from 1949 , and from 1963 the rank of colonel .
