Hans-Walter Heldt

Hans-Walter Heldt (born January 3, 1934 in Berlin ; † May 18, 2019 ) was a German plant physiologist and biochemist .

Life

Hans-Walter Heldt was professor at the Institute for Physiological Chemistry at the University of Munich from 1976 to 1978 . From 1978 until his retirement in 2002 he was a professor at the University of Göttingen in the plant biochemistry department.

His main research interests were the transport of metabolites across biomembranes in plants as well as photosynthesis metabolism. He was (co-) author of over 250 scientific publications and author of the textbook “Plant Biochemistry”, the 5th edition of which appeared in 2015, as well as an American, Japanese, Chinese, Indian and Russian edition

In 1993 he and Marshall Davidson Hatch received the Max Planck Research Award . Since 1990 he has been a full member of the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen .
