Hans-Walter Peters (born April 3, 1955 in Soltau ) is a German private banker .

Origin and studies

His father Walter Peters was city ​​director in Schneverdingen for 34 years . After graduating from high school, Hans-Walter Peters completed a degree in economics and statistics at the University of Dortmund . In 1986 he was at the University of Kiel with a thesis on "Capital Market Theory and stock market analysis" to Dr. sc. pol. doctorate , his doctoral supervisor was Manfred Willms .

career path

He began his professional career in 1987 as an analyst for fixed-income securities at Dresdner Bank in Frankfurt . From 1989 to 1990 he headed portfolio strategy at DG Bank and in 1990 took over the securities division at Frankfurter Volksbank .

In 1994 he joined Berenberg and was responsible for expanding the securities business. In 1997 he became a general agent of the private bank, in January 2000 a personally liable partner . In January 2009 he took over the newly created position of spokesman for the personally liable partners; together with Hendrik Riehmer, he holds 26.1 percent of the voting rights in Berenberg.

Hans-Walter Peters was President of the Association of German Banks from April 11, 2016 to April 22, 2020 .

Peters is also deputy chairman of the supervisory board of Universal Investment GmbH and a member of the supervisory board of BVV Versicherungsverein des Bankinggewerbes a. G. , member of the advisory board of the Auditing Association of German Banks , member of the board of the WHU foundation and member of the board of trustees of the Übersee-Club .

Peters has been a member of the Board of Directors of Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau since January 1, 2018 .
