Hans-Werner Osthoff
Hans-Werner Osthoff (born February 11, 1911 in Berlin ; † January 3, 2006 in Starnberg ) was a German lawyer .
Life
Hans-Werner Osthoff studied law in Berlin after completing his commercial training . In 1936 he was at the University of Greifswald to Dr. jur. PhD . He then worked as a legal advisor in the Foreign Office on the conclusion of the trade, shipping and friendship treaty with the USA . From 1939 to 1945 he did military service as a reserve officer in the air force command staff. He then worked as a lawyer in Berlin . In 1957 he became a member of the management of Röchlingschen Eisen- und Stahlwerke GmbH , and in 1967 its managing director.
He was a lecturer at the University of Munich and was appointed honorary professor at the University of Saarland in 1970, where he taught until 1974. His research areas were u. a. Business law , industrial policy and energy law and its European dimensions.
His ties to Saarland University are documented in the foundation of the Professor-Dr.-Osthoff-Foundation , which was established on December 7, 1990 as a special fund of Saarland University. It promotes special research projects and awards the Hans Werner Osthoff Prize for the promotion of outstanding young scientists from the Europa-Institut , Law Section and the Europa-Institut , Economics section, which is awarded annually.
