Hans Alfred Nieper
Hans Alfred Nieper (born May 23, 1928 in Hanover ; † October 21, 1998 Egerkingen ) was a German doctor who propagated the controversial orthomolecular medicine . He also dealt fundamentally with substances that he believed made minerals more available to the body and that he called mineral transporters .
Professional activity
Nieper worked at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz before completing his medical studies at the University of Hamburg . In the course of his career he worked as director of the medical department at the Silbersee Hospital in Langenhagen and the German Society for Medical Tumor Treatment .
He was head of the Aschaffenburg hospital laboratory and former director of the German Society for Medical Tumor Treatment and president of the German Society for Oncology . On a visit to the United States in 1972, Nieper told reporters:
“After having devoted myself to this very specialized work for more than 20 years, I have to state that non-toxic cyanogenic glycosides (nitrilosides) - i.e. Laetrile - are far superior to other known treatment and prevention measures. In my opinion [the use of] Laetrile is the only and most powerful way available to control cancer. "
His attitude towards the Laetrile has changed over the years, not least in the context of his collaboration with the biochemists Dean Burk and Ernst T. Krebs Jr. Like the latter, Nieper was an outspoken opponent of the use of fluoride for caries prophylaxis .
