Hans Armin Gärtner
Hans Armin Gärtner (born June 30, 1930 in Aue ) is a German classical philologist .
Life
After studying Classical Philology in Heidelberg , Gärtner received his doctorate in 1958 with the dissertation Investigations on the Sequence of Thoughts in Pindar's Victory Songs . In the following years he worked in Heidelberg as an academic councilor (since 1964) and senior councilor (since 1967). He achieved his habilitation in 1971 with a typological study of ancient historiography, which appeared in 1975 under the title Observations on Building Elements in Ancient Historiography, especially by Livy and Caesar . In 1973 he was appointed Scientific Councilor and Professor, in 1978 C3 Professor. In 1996 he retired.
Gärtner stood out particularly through motivic and typological studies of Roman literature. Another focus of his research is patristics . He is the founder and member of the Heidelberg Church Fathers Colloquium. On his 70th birthday, his colleagues and students dedicated a commemorative publication to him with the title Hortus litterarum antiquarum , edited by Andreas Halthoff and Fritz-Heiner Mutschler (Heidelberg 2000).
